Experience
My academic background includes a bachelor's degree in Child Psychology from Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia, and a graduate degree from Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. My master's is in Education Instruction and Curriculum with a concentration in reading. My first career was in the business sector and covered 16 years. I then realized that my true passion was working with children. That's when I made the decision to begin my career as a secondary school educator. My teaching certification covers from Pre-Kindergarten to grade five. I have taught for 17 years and tutored for 15, and I currently teach first grade. I have tutored reading, English Language Learner, and math, but reading is my absolute passion. I am happiest when I work with students. Tutoring gives me a chance to give them individual attention and instruction and build a relationship that is essential to their success. I firmly believe that every student has learning potential. It's my job to find a way to unlock that potential and bring it to the surface, using the tools and techniques that best fit their learning style. Outside of the classroom I like to work out, read, and be with my family.
